Motor

With a 1100W high-torque motor, Bosch have once again introduced the fantastic PowerDrive motor to this lawn scarifier. Why is this so good? Because the innovative gear system allows automatic adjustments when cutting through thicker moss. Once you also consider its electric nature and, therefore, zero emissions, it offers a fantastic option; not many are able to offer such an effective gear system.

Cutting Heights

As we’ve come to learn over the years, having one setting for height adjustment just isn’t good enough to cope with the varying demands of the seasons. With this Bosch model, a small lever on the side allows for an adjustment to four different settings; -5mm, 0mm, 5mm, and 10mm. While you will find six settings on the Flymo, the lever has been designed well and four height adjustments will still allow for a great result in most gardens.

Cutting Diameter

With a diameter of 32cm, you may think this is a little small but it has been designed to operate in smaller gardens with narrow strips. Yes, you will find larger but we think the diameter suits the lightweight nature of the model.

Collection Box and Storage

Collection Box, Storage, and Drum System

One of the best things about choosing a Bosch raker, as we’ve also seen with the Bosch ALR 900, is the 50-litre collection box. Not only do all users have this huge box to work with, but the Jet Collect system allows enough airflow in the system to avoid clogging.

If you’re worried about where to keep the raker, it comes in at around 10kg and the handle folds down to allow for easy storage. Suddenly, getting the model out and getting started doesn’t seem like such a chore and you don’t have to get rid of other items in the shed just to make room.

In terms of the drum system, there’s one 32cm drum with this particular model and this comes with 14 rotating BOR steel blades. Why is this important? For us, stainless steel improves a product like this because plastic can wear quickly and it also forces users to change the tines frequently too. With stainless steel, this problem is removed.

Potential Drawbacks

  • No dual start/stop handles (could be an issue for those with children)
  • The initial assembly has been known to cause problems
  • The handle isn’t as sturdy as other models
  • Other rakers in the market have six height adjustments as opposed to four
