Flymo Turbo Lite Electric Motor
Despite being designed for use with small lawns, the Turbo Lite 250 has a surprisingly powerful 1400W motor. This size of motor is found on many larger electric lawn mowers, highlighting just how much cutting power you can expect from the Turbo Lite 250.
While it’s hard to deny it’s best saved for just smaller garden lawns, the powerful engine means that the mower can handle grass that’s been left overgrown. Many smaller lawn mowers often struggle with this, so it’s a good choice for people who are dealing with longer or thicker grass.
For instance, if you tend to forget to mow over the autumn and winter, you’ll be left with some length grass come spring. Even if your grass gets long and thick over the seasons, the Turbo Lite 250 can still perform well despite the tougher growth.
On the flip side, if you like a well-maintained lawn then the Turbo Lite 250 is also a great choice. The powerful engine makes short work of shorter grass, offering quick and easy mowing for those looking for the perfect lawn.
The metal cutting blade in the Turbo Lite 250 measures 25cm, so it’s certainly not the widest cutting deck available. However, the mower is advertised as being suitable for smaller lawns, so in this context it’s a decent cutting width that should be perfect for those small garden lawns.
This smaller cutting deck also makes the Turbo Lite 250 very easy to push around. It’s compact and lightweight, so manoeuvring around in tight areas and making quick turns is very easy, making it a good choice for garden lawns with awkward shapes.
It’s also ideal for sloped lawns, as the hovering effect from the cushion of air produced from the engine makes the Turbo Lite 250 simple to move on uneven surfaces, something that rotary lawn mowers tend to struggle with.
Of course, the narrow cutting width does have its setbacks - it’s not great in medium and large sized lawns. You can try to use it in larger areas, it’s just going to take a long time to complete, as you’d be making a lot more passes due to the narrower width.
The Turbo Lite 250 offers the choice of four different cutting heights, ranging from 11 to 31mm. This is impressive for such a compact lawn mower, with smaller models often having fewer height options.
Having four height settings is perfect for cutting grass of varying lengths, which is typically needed given the different growing rates throughout the season. Set the short heights when you are regularly mowing for a well-manicured lawn, while adjusting to higher settings when the grass is longer.
It is worth noting that highest setting of 31mm is a lot lower than many other mowers, which tend to have higher cutting heights closer 50-70mm.
This just means you should avoid using the Turbo Lite 250 on very long grass, although most users will probably avoid doing this as it is only being used in smaller lawns that are easier to maintain over the year.
Still, having several height options is nice, especially for users that are regularly mowing their lawn, which is when lower cutting heights are best used.
The Flymo Turbo Lite 250 is one of the easiest lawn mowers to operate. Weighing an incredible 5.1kg, it is so lightweight that you will barely feel like you are pushing anything, especially when combined by the hover effect.
This is a fantastic lawn mower for people that don’t have the strength or endurance to push around a heavy lawn mower. You can use this for a long time and not feel any sign of fatigue, as it weighs virtually nothing!
Furthermore, the Turbo Lite 250 features a dual-handle design that allows for easy operation for both right and left-handed users, which is something lacking in most lawn mowers.
The power controls are found on the left- and right-hand side of the handles, allowing you to hold it with your stronger hand to reduce the chances of fatigue setting in. Moreover, this dual handle design if just comfortable to use, making it very easy to manoeuvre the Turbo Lite 250 around the garden.
Another advantage of being such a small lawn mower is easier storage. The Turbo Lite 250 has foldable handles so you can make it even smaller for storage, while it’s also possible to mount the lawn mower in your shed or garage.
The hover design means there are no wheels, so the cutting deck is completely flat, allowing it rest flush against flat surfaces like a wall. Just hang the lawn mower from the handle and let the cutting deck resting against the wall for compact storage.
If you lack much storage space then the Turbo Lite 250 is a great choice as you can fold it down or wall mount it to save space.
