Over the years, Flymo has reigned supreme in the lawn mower market. First invented in the 1960s, the brand took inspiration from the hovercraft and decided to implement this clever design with a new lawn mower. Now, over 50 years later, their product range is expansive and they enjoy a healthy share of the market alongside the likes of Bosch, Black & Decker, and others.
With so many different lawn mowers available today, even dozens from Flymo, you might be wondering where you need to start and which you should buy. Luckily, we like to stay up-to-date in the market and this knowledge is going to come in handy as we review the Mighti-Mo 300 Cordless Mower today. As well as discussing important features, we’re really going to dig deep into the advantages and disadvantages of choosing this product. Without further ado, let’s take a look!
Key Features
- 40V lithium ion battery (included with the mower itself)
- Five cutting heights
- 30cm cutting width
- Battery life to cut 250 square metre space
- Cutting height between 25mm and 65mm
- 120-minute charging time

If you’ve just started researching lawn mowers, all these details might be a little overwhelming so we’re going to break the most important features down. Will they suit your needs? Or should you be turning your attention towards a different model?
Power and Battery
With any lawn mower, the power and battery of the product is always a good starting point. If either one of these features is severely lacking, it’s highly unlikely we would recommend the product. With the Flymo Mighti-Mo 300, it uses a 40V lithium-ion battery which is absolutely fine for anybody who wants a simple product to mow their lawn every few weeks. However, there are a couple of potential problems of which you should be aware.
With the battery, Flymo has stated that it takes around two hours to charge. Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem but considering the battery life itself is under 30 minutes it might cause an issue for those with larger lawns. What does this mean? Well, according to Flymo, the product should cover 250 square metres in one charge. If your lawn is larger than this, you might want to look elsewhere (unless you’re happy to take a two-hour break in the middle of mowing the lawn, of course!). If you need a lawn mower for a space smaller than this, there’s no need to panic and it should work well for you.
Coming back to the positive side of this Flymo, the designers have been hard at work making it completely electric. Not only does this make it extremely quiet (you won’t worry about waking the neighbours early on a Sunday morning), it also means you’ll be doing your bit for the environment thanks to the zero emissions. Although you’re likely to find products with ‘mute technology’, the Mighti-Mo 300 is certainly quieter than petrol and old corded lawn mowers.
On the whole, the power and battery work perfectly for a certain market; make sure you’re aware of the limitations we’ve mentioned before you go ahead and decide.
Cutting Features and Customisation
Now we know the power and battery of the mower, we can progress to the finer details and flexibility it allows. For us, one of the best features of any mower these days is the adjustable cutting height because this allows for a perfect cut across all seasons and all conditions. Without requiring any tools or intricate work, the cutting height can be adjusted in a matter of seconds with a small lever on the top of the mower.
In total, there are five different cutting lengths between 25mm and 65mm which means you shouldn’t really be left wanting anything more. After buying this Flymo, we highly recommend starting on one of the higher settings before then working your way down. In no time, you’ll have a consistent and flush-looking lawn. You’ll need to keep an eye on the blade because this’ll affect the cut quality; sometimes, people think they’re cutting at the wrong height when it’s actually the blade that needs sharpening or replacing (but more on the blade later!).
After cutting height, we come across cutting diameter which is 30cm. In truth, there are both benefits and drawbacks to this but we’re going to lean on the side of this being good. True, you will find models with a cutting diameter of over 40cm but these are generally designed for the larger lawns. Since we know the battery life is suited to smaller and medium-sized lawns, the narrow cutting diameter will work perfectly in smaller spaces. Although it might mean more time required to complete the lawn, the lightweight design and narrow cutting diameter will allow for a high-quality cut in even the tightest of spaces.
Lawn Mower Blade
The next important feature we have for you is the blade because, let’s face it, if the blade is of a poor quality, it renders the lawn mower almost useless. Using the FLY069 30cm wheeled metal blade, we believe it offers two main benefits and eases any concerns you may have. Firstly, you’ll have a sharp blade to work with and this means the cut will be exactly as you want it. Rather than setting the cutting height and then having to adjust it slightly because the blade doesn’t cut well, the lawn will look neat and fresh when you’re finished. If ever it starts to go blunt, metal blades can be sharpened and you’ll be well on your way without having to spend out on a replacement.
The second benefit of having this blade is the simple fact it’s made of metal, rather than plastic. Not only does plastic wear much faster than metal, but plastic also doesn’t allow for sharpening. Overall, this means the Mighti-Mo 300 will last longer and it’ll provide efficient cuts for longer too.
Safety, Storage, and Other Features
Before concluding this extensive review, we first want to cover the safety features as well as any other important additions. For example, when cutting your lawn, you’ll have around 30 litres to play with before having to empty the grass box. To judge whether this is enough, we need to look around the market; 30 litres seems to be about right for a mower of this size. While there are mowers with a larger capacity, these are generally designed for a different purpose (or a larger battery life). While on the topic of the grass box, it’s incredibly simple to remove and clip back on so, even if it does fill while only half-way through the lawn, you can have it emptied and replaced within seconds.
In terms of safety, there’s one feature that we really like and it’s going to be useful for those who would consider themselves ‘clumsy’. In the past, thousands of injuries and broken lawnmowers have been caused by accidental starting. Maybe the mower is sitting waiting to be used, but you’re leaning over clearing some pots or moving obstructions. By accident, you lean on the power or just start it up without meaning to; this can cause injury and/or damage to the lawn. Thanks to a removable safety key, this shouldn’t be an issue with this particular Flymo.
With the power disabled, the mower won’t start even if the trigger is squeezed inwards. If you have children who like to run around the garden, this one small feature may seem insignificant but it allows for peace of mind. When comparing this to other battery mowers available on the market, we found plenty of a similar size who didn’t offer this type of safety.
Finally, what about the logistics of having the mower? Well, we’ve already mentioned the lightweight design but this also lends itself to easy storage. With a folding handle, the whole thing will only require a small corner when not in use (rather than most of the shed as once was the case!). For those without a shed, it shouldn’t have a problem squeezing into a small cupboard or even in the garage.
Furthermore, something we haven’t yet mentioned is the fact it’s cordless. These days, we tend to take this for granted but it makes using the lawn mower and storing it much easier. The days of mowing the lawn being a big upheaval are over and this lightweight, cleverly-designed mower contributes to this. For those with little storage space, or maybe those who suffer from back or shoulder pain, the Mighti-Mo 300 is a great solution.

Should I Buy the Mighti-Mo 300?
Ultimately, whether you should buy this lawn mower or not comes down to your own needs (and this is true of all lawn mowers and actually all products in life). As you can see above, this mower has some fantastic features and it’ll suit a large portion of the market. For the last 35 years, the average garden size in the UK has remained between 160 and 170 square metres so this suggests the average UK homeowner would be happy with this Flymo.
Of course, there will be plenty of people who have a garden larger than 170 and even larger than 300 square metres and it’s these people who need to start thinking about other products. Just because a mower suits some people, this doesn’t mean it’s perfect for everyone. With the 25-minute battery life and a 30-litre grass box, this isn’t likely to be enough for larger lawns. If you’re willing to invest a little more, you’ll find plenty of products, even from Flymo, that increase both of these numbers.
For the average gardener, there can be little complaint about the Mighti-Mo 300. Once ordered, you’ll receive the mower, the grass box, a lithium-ion 40V battery, and instructions inside the box. As long as you follow these instructions, you’ll be up and running in no time and, as long as you store it well and keep the blade maintained, you’ll have a trusty partner for a long time to come!
